How MyEVRange works
We put the official range next to what drivers are actually getting.
What is the official range?
New electric cars in the UK and Europe are given an official range using a standard test called WLTP. It gives every car the same benchmark, but it is not a promise that you will get exactly that distance on the road.
What you submit
Pick the exact car, enter the miles driven and the battery percentage at the start and finish. Then tell us whether the car was lightly or heavily loaded, whether it was cold, average or hot, and optionally whether the journey was mainly town, mixed or motorway driving.
How we work out the range
If you travel 180 miles and use 60% of the battery, that journey works out at 300 miles for a full battery. You never have to guess your own range figure.
Why the journey needs to use enough battery
A journey must use at least 15% of the battery. With a very small battery change, dashboard rounding can make the calculated range misleading.
Why log more than one journey?
Your EV will not behave exactly the same on every trip. A winter commute, summer motorway run and fully loaded family journey all tell us something different. Logging several journeys helps us show that variation.
Keeping the figures balanced
Repeat journeys are useful, but lots of entries from the same browser should not overwhelm everyone else's results. We use simple safeguards in the background while still allowing useful repeat journeys.
What happens to unusual results?
Clearly impossible results are rejected. Very high or low results are held for a quick check before they affect the averages, and bursts of submissions are limited.
What are the other range figures?
Where we have useful figures from other sources, we show them as extra context while the MyEVRange owner figures grow. They are labelled with their source and never count as driver submissions.
